I have always wanted to be big into tea, but have had a difficult time really loving it throughout the years. I grew up with the smell of coffee brewing in the house, which is probably one of the reasons why I love coffee so much. Just the smell of coffee gets me going, as I don’t really need the caffeine. In fact, I make my own half caff in a french press as opposed to fully loaded because that much caffeine gives me the jitters and makes me feel like my heart is going to jump out of my chest.
The Path to Tea
I know that tea is extremely beneficial to us due to the polyphenols and phytochemicals and the positive effects they have on the health of the human body. Tea can do things like assist with lowering the risk of heart attack, reduction of stress, protect against cancer, boost exercise endurance and a whole host of other things. Tea really is a superfood!
The issue has been trying to love the flavor of tea as much as I love the flavor of coffee. I started falling a little bit in love with it when I found a local tea store, Tin Roof Teas, which has a crazy amount of different flavors. I started with a Pumpkin Cream Rooibos and a Japanese Gogiberry. Both of these were so good that I went back and bought new flavors.
The Next Step
Once I started with these teas, I became more interested in other teas. A few of my affiliates happen to be tea companies, but I can’t say that I have had the chance to try any of their teas…until now. Zest Tea approached me and asked me if I would actually like to try some of their delicious teas so that I could speak about them in a more educated manner. What a silly question! Of course I would love to try their teas. So they sent me some to test out.
I was surprised when the package arrived because it had 4 different teas in the box, and a personalized thank you note with a cool sticker for my car. I was pretty excited to try 3 of the 4 flavors, especially because they were something new for me. I was sent two single sachets, one Blue Lady and one Apple Cinnamon. They also sent me 2 16-count bags of Earl Grey and Pomegranate Mojito. Yes, you read that right. Pomegranate Mojito tea! That one was the one that made my mouth water before I even opened the bag.
The first one we tried was the Pomegranate Mojito and it actually tasted like a pomegranate mojito! I have passed it out to others to try and they said the same thing. Then we tried the Apple Cinnamon and the Blue Lady. Bryan’s favorite of the two was the Apple Cinnamon (which tasted like pie) and my favorite was the Blue Lady (which was more my speed in that it had a lovely orange flavor). Although both of us enjoyed the two teas almost equally. I was a little bit more hesitant about the Early Grey tea because I have never really been a fan of that particular blend. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor that more than likely has to do with the infusion of Bergamot essential oil already in the tea. It was delicious! Not only did all 4 flavors taste great but they have more caffeine than coffee does, without all of the negative side effects.
How do they do this, you might ask? Well, it is actually a fairly ingenious method. By increasing the brewing times of teas, it naturally boosts the production of the amino acid L-Theanine. L-Theanine is proven to boost energy and increase brain activity without inducing drowsiness.
I hate to say that I was skeptical at first, but I was. Well, let me just tell you that the teas were not only delicious, but kept me going without any of the nasty coffee side effects from too much caffeine. We have been drinking them every day now. Although, since we are big into essential oils and the health benefits they wield, we have a tendency to add those to the tea as well. Neither one of us adds anything else and the flavors are amazing.
So far, we are loving their teas and what they do for our energy and focus!
